Teaching Plan For SEFC B1B Unit 16
Lesson 61 Dialogue
I.Teaching aims and demands:
1)      Main words & phrases:
catch fire, on fire, look out, take care, be careful,
In that case, might, be out, go out
2)      Through the learning of Dialogue and discussing on the topic “fire”,
let students know what to do in different cases of fire and increase their sense of self-protection
in case of fire.
3)      Practise listening, speaking and reading while learning the Dialogue.
II. Teaching aids:
   Computer and tape recorder
III. Teaching Procedure:
    Step 1  Revision
Discuss cooking with Ss. Ask: Can you cook? What can you cook? Can you fry eggs?
Introduce new words such as pan, pour, fry, splash…
Step 2  Presentation
But you know careless cooking can be dangerous. Once I wanted to fry some fish. I put the pan on the gas stove. Turned on the gas and poured some oil in the pan. Then I heard my daughter calling
me. I went to her room. She was trying on her coat and asked me whether the coat fitted her. And
asked me for advice which trousers went with the coat better. Suddenly I thought of the pan of oil
and ran to the kitchen. But it was too late. The pan of oil was on fire. “What should I do?”
Let the Ss make their suggestions.
Step 3  Dialogue
Let the Ss listen to the tape and try to find the answer to the question “What should I do?”----Turn
The gas off. Cover the pan then wait until the fire is out.
Then talk about “What shouldn’t I do?”--- Never try to carry the pan out of the kitchen.
Why?--- Because you might get burnt and you might drop the pan and splash the burning oil everywhere. In that case,(If that happens.) you wouldn’t have a pan on fire. You’d have a house on fire!
Step 4
1)      Do Ex 1 in WB
2)      Go through the dialogue with the Ss and explain difficult language points.
3)      Do pairwork to act the dialogue out.

Step 5  Reading -----Fire Notice
Before taking up the reading ask the Ss “ what would you do if you discover a fire in this school?”
1)      Let the Ss look through the notice and answer the following questions. Deal with the
difficult language points while checking the answers.
What would you do if you discover a fire in a hotel?
What shouldn’t you do if you hear the fire alarm?
Then what should you do if you hear the fire alarm?
2)      Deep questions
Talk about how to deal with different cases of fire.
Such as: What should you do if a forest fire happened?
How to deal with a fire caused by electrical equipment?
3) Language study
Look out!  /  Be careful!  /  Take care!
Look out! The oil is burning!
Look out! There's a car coming.
Take care! The pan is hot. Don’t touch it!
Be more careful with your work.
Be careful not to misuse this word.
!Never mind.   意思是没关系不要紧。例如:
---Too bad. I've left my dictionary at home.
---Never mind. You can use mine.
此外,“never  mind.”还可以用作对方表示歉意时的应答, 意思是“没有关系。”、“不用介意”。例如:
---Sorry I'm late .     ---Never mind.
in that case    在那种情况下如果是那样
It may snow tomorrow. In that case, you'll have to stay here
There may be no fire alarm in the hotel. In that case, telephone the operator.
