Activities and Purposes
1. Leading in
² Activities: Talk about the 27th Olympic Games and some unusual animals.
² Purpose: (1). Preview some new words
(2) Prepare the students for the reading
2. While-reading
² Activity: Read the text and answer some questions.
² Purpose: Read to find the main idea of each paragraph while reading
² Activity: Read the text and fill in the forms.
² Purpose: Read to find the detailed information
3. Post-reading
² Activity: Listen to the recording of the text.
² Purpose: Help students get the correct pronunciation and get ready for retelling.
² Activity: Retell the text.
² Purpose: Check the students’ understanding of the text.
Help students summarize.
4. Consolidation
² Activity: Making up some tour groups to visit Austria.
² Purpose: Encourage students to use what they have learned to make a conversation.
² Activity: Introduce our country.
² Purpose: Create an environment in which students can use what they have learned to communicate.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1. Greetings:
Step 2 Introduction:
1. Talk about the 27the Olympic Games held : the time, the place, the people who won the medals and so on.
2. Let the students see some pictures of Australian animals and cities to give them a vivid impression of Australia.
Step 3. Presentation:
1. Students read the text as quickly as they can to get the general idea of each paragraph.
2. Help the students to understand the text after their reading the text again.
Ask the following questions:
a) Why does Australia have many special plants and animals/
b) How large is Australia?
c) How many people live in the 6 major cities? Why is it so?
d) Why is Australia described as an extremely rich country?
e) What agricultural products does Australia produce?
f) Why did Australians build a long fence across the country?
g) How is the climate in Australia?
h) What do Australians like to do?
3. Students fill in the forms after further reading.

C. Get some students to give a speech about the topic: China.

Finish off all the exercises in the workbook.
